The Beckhoff EP2028-0032 EtherCAT Box is an 8-channel digital output module designed for decentralized control of actuators in industrial automation systems.

The module receives output commands from an EtherCAT master/controller and switches the corresponding 24 V DC control signals to field-level loads. The eight outputs can control resistive, inductive and lamp loads, with each channel supporting up to 2.8 A. The combined current of all eight outputs must not exceed 16 A at 40 °C.

Each output is individually short-circuit protected. The typical short-circuit current is approximately 15 A, and the typical switching time is approximately 200 µs for both turn-on and turn-off.

The EP2028-0032 provides two EtherCAT M8 interfaces for EtherCAT input and downstream connection. The power section uses separate 7/8-inch, 5-pin connectors for power input and downstream power forwarding. The logic/control supply and output/load supply are electrically isolated, with 500 V electrical isolation specified for the module.

The M12 output arrangement also provides flexible actuator wiring. Beckhoff documentation states that two digital outputs are available across adjacent M12 sockets, allowing either separate cables for individual actuators or a common cable arrangement for two actuators.
