Terminal BaseProduct parameters
General parameters
Module type: Flex Ex Intrinsically safe Terminal Base Unit
Product Number: 1797-TB3 (Series A)
Terminal quantity: 52 terminals (16 I/O terminals in 1 row, 18 common/voltage terminals in each of 2 rows)
Wiring method: Screw-Clamp
Current capacity: Maximum 10 A
Voltage range: Up to 125V AC/DC, 50/60 Hz
Flexbus current: 640 mA @ 5V DC
Isolation voltage: 125V (continuous). The Insulation Type between the terminal and the Flexbus is Basic Insulation Type. The isolation between channels is determined by the inserted module

Vibration resistance: 2 g (10-500 Hz, IEC 68-2-6)
Certification:
North America: Class I Division 1 & 2, Groups A-D; Class I Zone 1 & 2, Groups IIC, IIB, IIA
Europe: IECEx, CENELEC (in compliance with EN 50020), applicable to Zone 0, 1, 2, 21, 22
Others: UL, C-UL, FM, INMETRO, CE
Physical and electrical characteristics
Terminal configuration: Supports 36 bidirectional wiring connections, including label covers for backplane bus connections
Non-site repairable: The module cannot be disassembled and repaired on site. It needs to be returned to the factory for processing to maintain the intrinsic safety certification
Supported modules: Compatible with Flex Ex I/O modules (such as 1797-IB16, 1797-OB4D, etc.)
Function
Intrinsically safe wiring support
Provide the connection points of the intrinsically safe I/O module, which comply with the safety standards of hazardous areas (such as EN 50020, DIN EN 60079-11).
Supports up to 36 wiring connections for input/output signals, common terminals and power terminals.
Modular design
As the terminal base of the Flex Ex I/O system, it carries intrinsically safe I/O modules (such as digital and analog modules) and is used in conjunction with isolation modules such as 1797-BIC.
Supports DIN rail or panel installation, simplifying system integration.
Compatibility
Support protocols such as ControlNet, DeviceNet, EtherNet/IP, etc. through Flex Ex adapters (such as 1797-ACNR15 ControlNet adapter).
Compatible with controllers such as FlexLogix and ControlLogix.
Security features:
Only intrinsically safe signals are supported, and non-intrinsically safe signals are not allowed to be connected to protect the integrity of the system in the hazardous area.
Provide basic insulation from the terminal to the Flexbus to prevent electrical interference.
Installation and maintenance
The screw clamping design is convenient for wiring, but it requires more installation time compared to the Spring-Clamp.
Equipped with a locking mechanism, it meets the requirements of shock resistance and vibration resistance (DIN rail lock is required).
Application scenarios
Petrochemical and oil and gas industry: Used in Class I Zone 0, 1, 2 or European Zone 0, 1, 2, 21, 22 hazardous areas, connecting intrinsically safe sensors, actuators to control systems.
Chemical engineering and pharmaceuticals: In explosive gas or dust environments (such as chemical plants and pharmaceutical factories), provide wiring support for intrinsically safe I/O modules and monitor signals such as temperature and liquid level.
Distributed control system: In large factories, it serves as the terminal base for remote intrinsically safe I/O and communicates with the central controller through adapters.
Hybrid I/O system: Used in conjunction with 1797-BIC, it supports the hybrid configuration of standard Flex I/O and Flex Ex modules, optimizing the system integration between hazardous and non-hazardous areas.
Automation of hazardous environments: Applicable to scenarios requiring high safety certification, such as dust environments (Class II/III) or explosive gas environments, to ensure the safe operation of equipment.
