Function
Intrinsically safe isolation
Provide electrical isolation between the standard Flex I/O module and the Flex Ex module to ensure that the intrinsically safe circuit complies with the safety requirements of hazardous areas (such as EN 50020 and DIN EN 60079-11).
Prevent non-intrinsically safe signals from passing through the Flex Ex backplane to protect system integrity.
Module interconnection
Standard Flex I/O modules and Flex Ex modules are allowed to coexist on the same DIN rail and be connected to the same adapter (such as the 1797-ACNR15 ControlNet adapter), supporting hybrid system configurations.
Support up to 8 Flex Ex I/O modules to expand the system capacity.
Compatibility
Supports protocols such as ControlNet, DeviceNet, EtherNet/IP, etc. (via adapter).
Compatible with controllers such as FlexLogix and ControlLogix.
Safety design
It must be installed in a safe area or Zone 2 area. When connected to intrinsically safe circuits, relevant regulations (such as German DIN VDE 0165) must be followed.
Power-off/power-on should be synchronized with the adapter to avoid damage or safety risks.
Installation and maintenance
Supports DIN rail installation and is equipped with a locking mechanism to meet the requirements of shock resistance and vibration resistance (DIN rail lock is required).
It is equipped with a removable power connector and a backplane connector for easy installation and maintenance.
Application scenarios
Petrochemical and oil and gas industry: In Class I Zone 0, 1, 2 or European Zone 0, 1, 2, 21, 22 hazardous areas, connect intrinsically safe devices (such as sensors, actuators) to standard Flex I/O systems to ensure safety and compliance.
Chemical engineering and pharmaceuticals: Used in corrosive or explosive gas environments, it connects NAMUR sensors or intrinsically safe I/O modules to monitor and control chemical reaction processes.
Distributed control system: In large factories, it serves as the interface for intrinsically safe I/O systems, connecting equipment in remote hazardous areas to the central control system.
Hybrid I/O system: In scenarios where both standard Flex I/O and Flex Ex modules need to be used simultaneously, it provides isolation and interconnection functions to optimize the system design.
Automation of hazardous environments: Applicable to scenarios requiring intrinsically safe certification, such as mines, oil fields or dust environments (Class II/III), to ensure the safe operation of equipment.
