# Danfoss VLT® AutomationDrive FC 302 Quick Reference Guide

 

## 1. Product Identification & Primary Uses

The **FC 302** is a premium, high-performance variable frequency drive (VFD) designed for advanced industrial applications requiring high torque control, precise speed accuracy, and synchronous operation.

 

### Primary Applications

* **High-Torque Machinery:** Cranes, hoists, winches, and elevators (features built-in mechanical brake control).

* **Precision Handling:** Conveyors, positioning systems, and packaging lines.

* **Heavy-Duty Process Automation:** Extruders, mixers, centrifuges, and winders.

* **Safety-Critical Environments:** Standardly equipped with **Safe Torque Off (STO)** (SIL 2 / PL d, upgradable to SIL 3 / PL e).

 

### Key Differentiation from FC 301

While both belong to the FC 300 series, the **FC 302** is the heavy-duty model featuring Flux Vector Control (with encoder feedback option), permanent magnet motor capability, integrated STO safety functionality, and expanded input/output expansion capabilities.

## 2. Core Control Terminal Layout

The FC 302 features a highly configurable, removable terminal block grouped into safety, digital, and analog arrays:

 

* **Terminal 37:** **Safe Torque Off (STO)** Input. Must be supplied with +24V DC to allow the drive to run. 

* **Terminal 12 & 13:** +24V DC voltage supply for digital inputs.

* **Terminal 18:** Digital Input (Default: `[8]` Start).

* **Terminal 19:** Digital Input (Default: `[10]` Reversing).

* **Terminal 27:** Digital Input (Default: `[2]` Coast Inverse / External Reset).

* **Terminal 29:** Digital Input or Output (Default: `[14]` Jog).

* **Terminal 32 & 33:** Digital Inputs (Configurable for high-speed pulse inputs/encoder tracks).

* **Terminal 50:** +10V DC potentiometer supply.

* **Terminal 53:** Analog Input 1 (Voltage 0 ~ 10V or Current 0/4 ~ 20mA configured via switch A53).

* **Terminal 54:** Analog Input 2 (Voltage 0 ~ 10V or Current 0/4 ~ 20mA configured via switch A54).

* **Terminal 68 (+) & 69 (-):** RS-485 serial communication (FC Protocol / Modbus RTU).

### Mounting Clearance Rules

* **Side-by-Side:** Frame sizes **A, B, and C** can be mounted flush side-by-side with zero space required between them.

* **Top/Bottom Air Ventilation:** * Frames **A1, A2, A3, B3, B4, C3, C4**: Requires minimum **100 mm** clearance above and below.

  * Frames **B1, B2, C1, C2**: Requires minimum **200 mm** clearance above and below.
